Thinking on his current situation Inuyasha felt... good. He still had worries but right now, at this very moment, all was right with his world. It put his heart at ease knowing Miroku and Sango had each other. Everyone was taking turns keeping Shippo busy and out of trouble by giving him lessons to work on as they traveled. Kagome stayed close to him, they talked, joked, and learned about the other more every day which was serving to bring the couple closer. He begrudgingly felt thankful Kikyo kept her distance. Things were calmer for him when she stayed away. Sesshomaru and Koga had been scarce as well, helping to keep his stress level way down.
Lying in the grass, his ear twitched, tickled by Kagome's hair on the breeze. The thought made him smile.
Staring at the darkened sky overhead, the stars stretched out for miles and miles. Looking for the moon and finding it, she stared at the black circle in the night sky. Stretched out in the open field, fingers laced behind her head, Kagome smiled contently. It was so easy to relax during the new moon when Inuyasha was calm. She made a mental note to thank Miroku later for the barrier.
Her thoughts drifted to her hanyou, knowing he worried more about their group than he let on. Kagome worried, too, of course, but her biggest concern was always Inuyasha. Everyone had fallen together just right, Sango and Miroku, she and Shippo, and, sadly, Inuyasha and Kikyo. But lately even she had been scarce. Kagome was glad for this only because Inuyasha was so much more at ease when the dead priestess wasn't calling for him. Their relationship was better when Kikyou wasn't around as well. Kagome had noticed how they had gotten closer as they traveled, enjoying each other's company more every day. Now that she thought about it, even Sesshomaru and Koga hadn't come around. Again, Kagome felt glad for the absence and resulting ill will.
Lying in the grass Kagome felt the breeze stir her hair and she giggled, feeling Inuyasha's ear twitch.
